Note from the artist about this piece:
I've walked past this scene scores of times. In fact, I have a watercolor image of it, encompassing a wider view, here on TurningArt. But it wasn't until I was guiding a friend around town that I was struck by how much it reminded me of open public spaces in Rome or Paris: the angularity of quasi colonnade structure on the right, contrasted with the curvilinear dome of the church. I especially liked the contrast of the feathery fountain sprays and puffy clouds vis-a-vis the dark solidity of the buildings, so I decided that a black and white rendering would best illustrate those differences.
