About Tim Forcade:
Tim Forcade has over forty years’ experience as a painter, photographer and designer, which has been devoted to art and technology. He has combined his education in drawing and painting with experimental photography and multi-media works, resulting in numerous exhibitions and installations. His work has been collected and exhibited nationally and internationally.
By the late 1960s, as a student of drawing and painting at the University of Kansas, Tim began to experiment with abstract photography and electronic circuit design for creating complex color imagery that results in kinetic artworks, photographs and videos. His "stroboscopic":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stroboscopic_effect figure studies combined theatrical lighting and choreography to create a series of "multiple exposure" color and black and white photographs aimed at abstracting human form via movement and light.
During the 1970s and 80’s, Tim created Light Machines 3 and 4; programmable semiconductor chaos devices designed to transform live and recorded sound into colored light compositions. Tim used these devices to create installations, photographs, videos, and his own music compositions based on visual criteria. His photo series “Surfaces” and “Sonic Objects” consisted of color photocompositions produced by manipulating the light-machine controls.
Throughout the 80's and 90's, Tim participated in the emergence and evolution of 2D and 3D computer graphics as an artist, beta tester, author, and development team member. He consulted with computer graphics software companies including "Microsoft":http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx and "Autodesk":http://usa.autodesk.com/. He also taught and lectured extensively at various conferences and colleges. Recently, his work has shown at "The Center for Fine Art Photography":http://www.c4fap.org/, "Fetherston Gallery":http://www.fetherstongallery.com/, and "Strecker-Nelson Gallery":http://www.strecker-nelsongallery.com, among others including a solo-show at the "Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art":http://albrecht-kemper.org/events/category/coming-soon/.

Press Accolades
- âThese pictures have a quality of being painstakingly assembled rather than simply photographed. These are not the works of a 20-something who stumbled onto a revelatory vision. Rather, Tim Forcade, after an odyssey extending through lights, motors, cameras and computers has created his own vision by infusing art and technology.â - April 2010
- âHe presents us with photographs that insist on a slow readâambiguous images that defy linear analysis or literal narrative. In the end one finds they are having a meditative as much as an aesthetic experience, an experience born out of a true synthesis between painting and photography.â - August 2009
- âForcadeâs workflow incorporates many subtle aesthetic choices that are possible in a digital image but would have been impracticalâeven impossibleâon film. People sometimes mistake Timâs photographs for paintings. He was trained and thinks like a painter, uses color and form like a painter and operates the camera as if it were an instrument of pure visionâlike the eye itself. â - September 2009
