Born and raised in West Virginia, Sue Selvey came to Goose Creek, SC by way of Amelia Island, Florida in 1990. Prior to her retirement in 2005, she was an air traffic controller for 23 years, first in Jacksonville, Fla. and then at Charleston Airport.
Her artwork hangs in local professional offices and public buildings, and in private collections throughout the US and internationally. She is treasurer of the Goose Creek Artists Guild and an exhibiting member of the Summerville Artist Guild. She works in the mediums of watercolors, pastels, and oils. Her work “A Massive Cover Up” is the 2024 Artwork of the Year for the City of Goose Creek. Her art has won numerous awards, including 3 Best in Shows, in local, regional and state-wide judged exhibition.
Her paintings are most often of landscapes, local landmarks and animals. She enjoys interpreting the whimsical, the rustic, and the unusual or unexpected. She also tries to preserve pictorially the rural landscape and settings that are too often disappearing into the urban sprawl. Sue paints representationally and wants her paintings to portray a sense of delight and a feeling that the viewer could step into the painting and be an active participant within the scene.
