About Novi Lim:

Artist Introduction

“Nature reimagined in motion: Lim’s poetic abstractions of flight and bloom.”
Lim is an Indonesian-born, North Carolina–based painter whose lyrical abstractions merge movement, memory, and nature into visual poetry. Working in acrylic, oil, and delicate metallic details, she creates atmospheric compositions where forms suggest wings, petals, and flowing water — symbols of transformation and resilience. Her paintings have been placed in international collections and hospitality spaces, and she continues to explore the intersections of fragility and strength, gesture and stillness, across both intimate canvases and large-scale works.
_____________
The hand remembers what the mind forgets. For me, abstraction is the ultimate gateway to a deeply personal visual language. Each work is layered with hidden symbols, memories, and interpretations—echoes of innocence, heritage, nostalgia, beauty, nature, and even darkness.  These elements are not always overt, but they are embedded in the gestures and choices I make. Every intentional mark I lay on the canvas—every stroke, pressure, tension, or burst of color—is a form of coded expression. Whether through paint, brush, or unconventional tools.

I translate emotion into form, distilling complex inner worlds into simplified, visual harmonies.
My creative interest lies in capturing the spirit and nuances of both my internal landscape, subconscious elements of memories and the natural world.
I follow an instinctive rhythm in my process, guided by fluid curves, softened edges, and sweeping gestures. I often draw from nature’s graceful archetypes—elements that resemble aquatic, avian, and botanical forms—which serve as recurring muses. With intuitive movements, discovery occur through the layering of different techniques, contrasting texture, and detail work that creates depth.
I am often captivated by fleeting visual poetry—a bloom unfolding, the shifting hues of a sunset, or the glint of moonlight on water. These moments awaken a sense of wonder,  pushing me into a flow state where intuition and expression converge.
Art, for me, is a sensorial and exploratory practice—an ongoing dialogue between intention and surrender. It’s a space where I follow curiosity, embrace uncertainty, and translate the unseen into something tangible.
The act of creation allows me to honor my individuality while making space for transformation. Through dynamic line work, gradients, and the contrast of light and shadow, I aim to infuse each piece with a quiet, contemplative intensity.
