About Kirsten Lowe-Rebel:
Kirsten uses ink to draw and understand her surroundings. Most of her subjects are architectural, and although she works in a traditional pen-and-ink style, her drawings seem to capture a timeless, living breath. Kirsten often describes her linework as “wonky.” She loves imagining the permanent, steadfast, motionless structures she draws having a will of their own—to speak and share their stories. Through them, she aims to render the essence of human life experienced within and around these structures, the accumulated energy felt across many timelines.
After graduating from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a BFA in Fine Art, focusing on 2D materials and print media, Kirsten established KLoRebel Art Co. in 2012 as her creative studio practice in her hometown of Pittsburgh, PA. Over the years, she has exhibited and sold work through arts festivals and her former brick-and-mortar gallery and gift shop in Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood. She is now expanding her portfolio from an additional drawing outpost in downtown Los Angeles.
Today, Kirsten focuses on drawing commissions, developing a unique product line for wholesale shops, and continuing to share her work online. She is a member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators and recently exhibited as a juried artist in the Smithsonian-affiliated Heinz History Center’s My America exhibition.
Kirsten believes that drawing is a gift for anyone who feels compelled.
