About Juan M. Alonso:
BIOGRAPHY
Juan Manuel Alonso Terron (1977 – Present)
Born in Mexico City where he spent the first ten years of his life. He spent the rest of his childhood and adolescence in Cities like ; Villa Hermosa, Guadalajara, Lerma de Santiago and in the State of Mexico.
Juan spent his childhood being diagnosed with Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This caused a very tortuous primary learning experience. He completed his high school degree at the UNAM College of Sciences and Humanities, and then migrated to the United States in 1999, where he studied photography while working as a graphic designer.
As a photographer and artist, he made his first “solo exhibit” called “I Refused”, in April 2011 at the gallery “The Quinlan Visual Arts Center” in Gainesville, Georgia. His black and white digital photography and printing was of such quality that it was mistaken for being processed in “Silver Gelatin.”
This first exhibition was followed in May of that same year with participation in 'Have Train Will Travel', a locomotive-themed photography exhibition made up of four photographers. Also followed by “I Refuse to Not See” at “Shapiro’s Gallery” in July.
Examples of awards won for Juan Manuel Alonso's photography are: 'Artistic Achievement Award' awarded at 'The Grandeur Juried Artist International Exhibit 2011', organized by 'The Hampton Fine Art Gallery', for his work called 'Lucky Is His Name' ', black and white photography; 'Award for excellence in photography' awarded at the '37th Juried exhibition' 2012, held at the 'Lyndon House Arts Center', for his work called 'In Paradise', black and white photography. His work is also found in private and public collections, such as the artworks at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Juan Manuel Alonso has taught photography at art centers and learning institutions, such as The Brenau University, The Quinlan Visual Arts Center, and The Lyndon House Art Center.
From May 2012 to May 2014, Juan Manuel served as a member of the board of directors of the Athens Area Arts Council. He created interactive teaching material such as 'The Interactive Book of Photography' in 2014, a digital book with interactive animations created in HTML5.
Among other things, Juan Manuel has worked in periodical publications as a photographer, graphic designer, and creative director. Among these publications are: 'Southern Distinction Magazine', 'Lake Oconee Living', 'Boom Athens', and their own publications such as: 'The Artisan Magazine' and their new publication, now in our country, 'El Artesano', magazine regional focused on cultural content, in the state of Querétaro, Mexico.
