John Kotos

John is an abstract artist based in Ponte Vedra, Florida. He uses acrylic paint, stretched canvases, and a variety of methods to create abstract paintings. His work is inspired by nature as well as the works of abstract expressionist artists including Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell, Mark Rothko, Wassily Kandinsky, and Willem de Kooning.

John began his artistic journey by experimenting with spray paint and stencils before transitioning to abstract work. He loves testing out new color combinations to create vibrant works of art. To do this, he uses a variety of tools including traditional brushes, paint hardened brushes, and scrapers to layer, pour, throw, and blend the paint. As a self-taught painter, he looks to marry the serene and calming aspects of the natural world with the intuitive and expressive nature of action-based abstract painting.
