About Joanna Posey :

I am primarily an abstract painter, but my creativity expands into other mediums in which I
am always exploring and learning. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree emphasizing in painting
from The University of Arkansas Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences. My artistic approach is
one that is connected to a deep exploration of color and depth created by texture. I am heavily
influenced by music and the layering of instruments to create a song, I often view my paintings
as a symphony of layers, color, depth from texture, and pattern. Textile design and layering of
different elements of textiles and fibers inspires my approach, as well as the senses that nature
can evoke. I love to put words to a painting to describe the idea behind a piece, giving it an
identity visually and with words. There is a strong relationship between words and my work. I
fully embrace the tensions in life as well as the beauty. I embrace imperfection and strive to
lean into to that to process life and create art from that as a means of internal expression. My
application of layering paint, scrapping, then layering again is a direct reflection of life, tension
can sometimes be what is needed most to create something beautiful. I believe that there is
something transcendent about art, there is something unexplainable at times, a means of
communicating to our depths. Communicating something unexplainable but so true and we
somehow just get what it is telling us personally. It is of value by uniquely and simply being
itself and showing itself to the viewer. The process of creating a painting that started from
nothing and evolves into its own individual self teaches me that of myself as well. I am always
searching to become my truest self and the process of making art is one of my best teachers.
