About Jean Nicolazzo:
Jean Nicolazzo is interested in landscapes that reveal themselves slowly. After hours of on-site observation—visual note taking with oil pastels, pencil, and video—she returns to her studio to finish the final oil on canvas. She feels that her responsibility as an artist is to look harder, see more, and embody that focus in her work. She thinks of her paintings as a physical manifestation of her attention through the lens of memory. Lately, she’s been preoccupied with the movement and shimmer of bodies of water disturbed by outside forces.
Jean lives in Providence, Rhode Island, and works among a community of artists in nearby Pawtucket. She has shown her work in various group and solo shows in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Washington D.C., as well as other venues across the United States.
Her work is in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.
