About Guy Crittenden:

Guy Crittenden
Artist, Photographer, Naturalist

Guy Crittenden grew up fishing and hunting on the Chesapeake Bay in Gloucester, Virginia. He raised waterfowl at his childhood home on the shores of the Ware River, crabbed in the shallows along the tidal sandbars, and learned about wildlife and the ways of watermen from his grandfather. Guy began to draw and paint as a teenager and it was no surprise that his favorite subject matter was the native wildlife and tidal river scenery he experienced in his boundless backyard. All of those childhood experiences had a profound impact on Guy and has influenced his art throughout his life.

As a high school athlete, Guy caught the eye of college coaches, and attended The College of William and Mary on a full Football scholarship. He continued his interest in art and nature throughout his college years, and began to gain notoriety for his paintings.
Upon graduation with a business degree, Guy attended The Art Institute of Atlanta where he earned an Associate Degree in the Arts. He worked 10 years for advertising agencies before opening Crittenden Studio, a digital photography and video production studio in Richmond, Virginia in the early 1990’s. Over the years, Guy has produced commercial photography and video work for regional and national brands. His photography and digital art have gained national recognition, while his fine art paintings have drawn wide acclaim as well.

Guy has exhibited his art at some of the most prestigious juried wildlife and sporting shows in the nation. His work has been published by The National Wildlife Federation, International Ducks Unlimited and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He is a seven-time winner of the Virginia Migratory Waterfowl Stamp competition, and has won 23 stamp competitions overall and regularly places in the top 10 of the Federal Duck Stamp Contest. Guy currently works primarily on competitions and original commissions for clients and collectors. He donates a substantial number of paintings and prints to charities and conservation organizations every year. “My art is not only a way to share my experiences, but also a way to contribute to the conservation of natural resources for future generations. It is gratifying on several levels.” A selection of Guy’s work is on display year round at Crossroads Art Center in Richmond, Virginia. He annually exhibits at the Southeastern Wildlife Expo in Charleston, SC, and the Rappahannock Waterfowl Festival in Virginia.
