About Gregory McKay:

Gregory McKay is a Baltimore-based photographer and physician-scientist whose ongoing project, Beauty of Baltimore, captures the city in luminous, carefully observed detail. A Massachusetts native, he moved to Baltimore by way of Rochester to pursue an MD-PhD at Johns Hopkins University. Now a general surgery resident and practicing photographer, McKay balances demanding days in the hospital with early-morning and late-night walks, bike rides, and kayak trips through the city, where he chases those fleeting combinations of sky, water, and architecture that define his work. He shares images that counter one-dimensional narratives about Baltimore, highlighting its historic streetscapes, working harbor, industrial bones, and quiet, lived-in corners. His work invites viewers to reconsider what they think they know about the city and to see, with fresh eyes, the everyday beauty he encounters firsthand when exploring it.
