Long Island City, NY
About Elinore Schnurr:
I have always been a painter of people, particularly urban and mostly anonymous. I started my career being influenced by the paintings of Edward Hopper who, in a strange way, has never left my side.
After Art School, in 1958-59, I spent 6 months, every day, looking at the great paintings in Europe; then settled in New York City, which has been my home and my source of inspiration ever since. I work in oils and watercolor/gouache and, in recent years, have painted large paintings for permanent installation in lobbies in new residential towers in Brooklyn and Long Island City. My work is included in museum collections, such as the Cleveland Museum, the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, to name a few, and in more than 50 and hundreds of private collections in the USA and Europe.
