About Donald Rommes:
Don Rommes is a retired neonatologist and accomplished landscape and nature photographer working primarily west of the Rockies in the United States and Canada. His background in both intensive care medicine and photography gives him a unique perspective on the restorative benefit of nature photography and a clear understanding of “evidence-based” art in healthcare.
Don’s personal photography tends toward the “Intimate Landscape”, usually without horizon or sky, which emphasizes form, pattern, and color over pure likeness. He is especially interested in creating images that can be appreciated on two levels: for their abstract qualities when viewed at a distance, and for the fine, realistic detail when viewed more closely.
Over his career, Don’s interest in preserving the landscape and cultural treasures of southern Utah has led to the publication of two authoritative books on the area and an exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum. Today, Don continues to engage with natural environments, not only for their physical and mental health benefits but also to create and share photographs that might offer similar benefits to others.
