About Andres Alvarez:
Andres’ inclination toward making art has been present since early childhood in the Dominican Republic. Each stage of his life has been shaped by his relationship with art—initially centered on drawing, and later expanding into multiple mediums. Around 2013, he reached a pivotal turning point, committing himself to a period of deliberate personal growth and dedicating greater focus to refining his technical ability as a painter. He consciously embarked on a disciplined pursuit to narrow the gap between the way he envisioned creative ideas and their physical realization.
His work is informed—both consciously and subconsciously—by more than two decades in the field of graphic design. Years spent working with color theory, visual hierarchy, and compositional structure cultivated a sustained comfort with experimentation. His creative foundation is further strengthened by over five years of professional experience as a mural painter within the advertising industry. Working at architectural scale introduced a new relationship to subject matter, expanded his engagement with surface and texture, and prompted exploration of color palettes not previously considered within his studio practice.
Andres’ creative curiosity remains active and evolving. As a result, his artistic language resists fixed categorization. Rather than adhering to a singular aesthetic identity, his practice is guided by ongoing inquiry and disciplined exploration, allowing the work to develop organically rather than conforming to expectation.
