About Alexandra Arata:
Alexandra is an artist, interior architect, and designer. Born in Argentina, she moved to Washington, D.C., in 2002. Alexandra holds a master’s degree in Interior Architecture and Design from the University of Salamanca in Spain. She has been painting since an early age and later continued her art studies at Glen Echo and the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.
She has participated in numerous art exhibitions both locally and internationally, and her work is part of private collections across the globe, including in England, Scotland, Spain, Andorra, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Germany, France, China, Mexico y many more. Her pieces are also displayed in offices at the White House, the International Monetary Fund, Facebook, JBG Smith, Douglas Development, Donohoe, ARUP, and various private collections.
Alexandra explores the profound impact that colors and shapes have on our lives—how they can influence mood, affect psychology, and even produce physical reactions. Her goal is to offer an optimistic vision of the future through works that embody attitude, audacity, and strength. By adding color to our days in both symbolic and metaphorical ways, she seeks to connect with viewers through the energy of color and passion.
“My artworks are like life itself: full of texture, light, shadows, scratches, and asymmetries. They are never perfect but always passionate,” Alexandra says. “I enjoy when my work reflects the passage of time—the patina we collect throughout life—but I also love when it feels bold and bright, signaling the start of something exciting.
I use a wide range of materials, including oils, paint, wax, crayons, wood, paper, and more. Experimenting with different mediums allows me to explore without being confined to a single technique. Much of my work is abstract because emotions cannot be captured in a single image or word. I believe this gives observers more freedom to feel, reminisce, and react to the work. If my paintings evoke primordial emotions and connect with people, then I’ve accomplished my mission.”
